PlanetSound
PlanetSound is an open source audio piece for the web browser. It is an attempt to represent our solar system sonically.
Each planet is represented by a sound frequency that is derived from its distance from earth. The frequencies are updated in real time, so the pitches change (very slowly) as the planets move through space (time?).
I included a slider to “increase the speed of time”, which makes it possible to hear how the distance relationships between planets change on a larger time scale. It’s kind of like time travel, except for you’re just sitting at your computer like normal.
This is an updated version of a piece I made in 2012 in Max MSP.
